Artificial Grass Installation

Artificial grass installation is a popular landscaping solution that offers a low-maintenance, durable alternative to natural lawns. The process involves laying down synthetic turf over a prepared base, which typically consists of compacted sand or gravel to ensure proper drainage.

First, the existing grass or vegetation is removed, and the ground is leveled to create a stable foundation. Then, a weed barrier may be installed to prevent unwanted growth beneath the artificial grass. The synthetic turf is unrolled and carefully cut to fit the area, with seams securely joined to create a seamless appearance. Infill materials, such as sand or rubber granules, are added to weigh down the grass and enhance its realism by helping the fibers stand upright.

Artificial grass installation offers many benefits, including year-round green aesthetics, minimal water usage, and reduced maintenance compared to natural grass, making it an ideal choice for both residential and commercial landscapes.

Fencing

Fencing aims to enclose an area for security, privacy, or aesthetic purposes. It serves many functions, including marking property boundaries, enhancing safety by keeping pets and children within a designated area, and providing protection against intruders.

The process typically involves setting posts in the ground, which serve as the framework for the fence, followed by attaching the chosen fencing material.

Skippers have the experience and knowledge to securely instal different types of fences, including school and playground fencing, wooden panels, chain-link mesh, V mesh fencing, chestnut fencing, closeboard, post and rail, wire livestock fencing, solid metal sheets and gates.

Fencing can also be used to create decorative elements in gardens or outdoor spaces, with styles ranging from simple, functional designs to more ornate, artistic structures.

Proper installation is essential for durability, and factors like soil type, weather conditions, and local regulations can influence both the choice of materials and the installation method. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and repairing damage, helps to extend the lifespan of the fence

Paving

Paving not only enhances the visual appeal of an outdoor space but also offers practical benefits, such as easy maintenance, improved safety, and increased property value.

Paving is the process of laying a durable, level surface for outdoor areas, commonly used for driveways, patios, walkways, and roads.

The process begins with site preparation, which involves clearing the area of debris, weeds, and any existing structures, followed by grading the ground to ensure proper drainage. A solid foundation, often made of compacted sand or gravel, is then laid to provide stability and prevent shifting over time. Next, paving materials such as concrete, asphalt, brick, or natural stone are arranged in a pattern or design, depending on the desired aesthetic and functionality. The individual units are either set in place or poured and leveled for solid, continuous surfaces.

Turf Installation

Turf installation is the process of laying down natural or synthetic grass to create a lush, green lawn or landscape feature. For natural turf, the installation begins with soil preparation, which involves clearing the area of debris, weeds, and old grass, then leveling and aerating the soil to improve drainage and promote root growth. A layer of topsoil is often added to enhance the soil's fertility before the sod, or rolled grass, is laid down in tightly fitting rows, ensuring a seamless, uniform appearance.

Turf will require regular care including watering and mowing to maintain a healthy attractive appearance.

Turf installation is a popular choice that offers a low-maintenance solution for a beautiful green space.

Shrub Bed Renovations

Shrub bed renovations involve revitalising and improving existing shrub beds to enhance their appearance, health, and functionality. The process typically begins with clearing out dead, diseased, or overgrown shrubs, weeds, and debris, which can hinder the growth of healthy plants. Once cleared, the soil is assessed and, if necessary, amended with organic matter like compost or mulch to improve soil fertility and drainage. New shrubs or plants may be introduced, selecting species that complement the existing landscape and suit the soil and climate conditions. The bed is then redefined or reshaped to create an aesthetically pleasing design, which could include adding edging, creating mounds or borders, or incorporating decorative elements like rocks or gravel. A layer of mulch is added to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

Regular maintenance, including watering, fertilising, pruning, and monitoring for pests, ensures that renovated shrub beds remain vibrant and sustainable over time.

Eco-Bays

Eco-bays are designed to store soil and green waste in a tidy manner before full removal from site.

These are ideal for large nature sites such as cemeteries, wildlife parks and allotments. Often made from steel RSJ's and Oak wood sleepers, they create a contained and safe storage space, with a professional finish.

Sand Pit Construction

Sand pit construction involves creating a designated area filled with play-grade sand, typically for recreational purposes such as children's play zones or outdoor activities, such as long jump.

The process begins with selecting a suitable location, ensuring the area is level and free from obstructions like rocks or roots. The perimeter is then marked, and a sturdy border is established, usually made from timber, bricks, or plastic edging, to contain the sand and prevent it from spilling out. After the boundary is set, the ground is excavated to a desired depth, often between 6 to 12 inches, depending on the intended use. A weed barrier may be laid down to prevent grass and weeds from growing through the sand. Once the base is prepared, high-quality, non-toxic play sand is added to the pit, ensuring a soft and safe surface for children to play on. Finally, the sand is leveled and smoothed, and the sand pit is occasionally covered with a tarp to keep it clean and free from debris.

Proper maintenance, including regular raking and replenishing the sand, is essential to maintain the pit's safety and hygiene. This is a common task in our contracted school maintenance programmes.

Cricket Wickets

Cricket wicket installation is a crucial process in creating a high-quality playing surface for the sport. The installation begins with preparing the ground, ensuring the soil is compacted and level to provide a firm foundation. A good wicket requires a well-draining sub-base, often made of a mixture of gravel and sand, to prevent waterlogging and ensure consistent bounce.

Once the base is ready, a layer of specially prepared soil, typically a blend of clay and loam, is spread and leveled to form the pitch. This soil is then carefully rolled and compacted to achieve the right firmness and smoothness. The top layer is usually cut and rolled to create a flat, even surface that supports both batting and bowling. Finally, the boundaries of the wicket are marked, and any necessary protective elements, such as a surrounding netting or boundary ropes, are installed. Proper maintenance of the wicket, including regular rolling and watering, is key to preserving its quality for professional-level cricket matches.
